Post-Forum Thoughts

"Just do it!" This message from Dr. Wang Jing Yuan of Nanyang Technological University permeated throughout the auditorium and eptiomised "Beyond Awareness", the theme of the National Youth Environment Forum 2008.

Dr Amy Khor and the Forum teamPanel discussion

On 10 May 2008, over 200 youth participants, hailing from the various junior colleges, polytechnics, Institute for Technical Education, universities and all walks of life gathered at the Research University on Leadership for a day of enlightening speeches by speakers and intense discussions during the Caucus discussions.

We were also glad to have Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, to grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

Aside from the discussion and plenary sessions, participants got to visit the various booths set up by different NGOs. To cap the day off, groups from the 4 caucus discussion groups - namely Reducing carbon footprint, Rethinking our waste, Sustainable food and water resources, and Conserving biodiversity - presented their action plans and were eager to see their proposals take fruit.

And perhaps the closing speech from the forum planning team summed it up best: "To work towards the better future, action from youths is required and to be on the right track is not enough. We have to start moving". Let''s do it!
