"Beyond Awareness"

The theme employed a double-pronged approach that was aimed to venture beyond awareness of environmental issues by:

  1. examining the underlying players that contribute to environmental issues, and
  2. taking individual action.

Esteemed speakers from varied backgrounds in academia as well as the industry selected by the forum planning committee discussed four key issues that drive environmental issues and brought light on how we can move beyond the awareness stage of environmental issues.

  1. Technology
  2. Economics
  3. Attitude
  4. Legislation

Around this theme, we set the topics for caucus group discussions and youth initiatives as:

  1. Reducing our Carbon Footprint
  2. Rethinking our Waste
  3. Sustainable Food and Water Resources
  4. Conserving Biodiversity

During the discussion, the facilitators engaged each of the discussion groups for the following:

  • Identify what are the concerns in the issue and prioritize them
  • Identify changes/recommendations hope to see in Governmental policies Corporations
  • Facilitate the team to come up with one project to be executed in 2009 to tackle the issue. (And at ECO Singapore, we'll work with them to actualize the projects)

The respective teams then came together at the end of the forum and presented quickly on what they had each come up with to each other before the forum came to a close.
