A. Briefing on present status of project
1. Some preliminary designs have been suggested
2. Human talent: 1 interior & 1 exterior architect, at least 2 with YEP experience
B. Picking the site for Ecohouse
1. 4 sites suggested
a. MOE adventure campsite near Dairy farms
i. Regular visits from secondary and primary school students
ii.Site is free and MOE might partly fund it
iii. MOE will likely continue to maintain and use the Ecohouse to teach the visiting students in a structured manner
b. Bishan Park
i. Rental needed, human traffic low
c. Youth Park/ Anywhere suitable with high human traffic
i. No rental needed
ii. High human traffic
iii. Will be in the public eye, so the Ecohouse must be done very well at the first try
d. Ubin
i. SEC is also building a Ecohouse there, so can work with them
ii. Rural setting --- visitors may get the impression that the Ecohouse is only suitable for rural areas and not urban areas
2. Final Decision
a. Ecohouse to be done in 2 parts
i. Firstly, a preliminary scaled-down Ecohouse to be built at MOE campsite
ii. Secondly, the actual full-scaled Ecohouse to be built at a location with high human traffic
C. Timeline for building of Ecohouse
1. Main building phase in 1st 2 weeks of December
2. Details with Ray and will be sent later
D. Measures to attract people and ensure sustainability after Ecohouse has been completed
1. How to attract people
a. Must not be solely educational as it turns students off
b. Turn it into a tourist attraction
c. Exterior must be unique/cool
2. How to ensure financial sustainability
a. Selling stuff at Ecohouse
b. Provision of Exhibition space for arts etc.
i. also will attract people who normally may not be interested in environmental stuff
c. Rent it out as a test-bed for new technologies
3. How to make it relevant
a. Must be HDB themed and not applicable only to landed property
b. Encourage visitors to duplicate it overseas
c. Must be a strong symbol that ecohouses are possible in Singapore
