RSC Block Party: ECO Solutions Festival
Some say that music is the universal language of mankind, and the organisers at the RSC Block Party had adopted this notion well to spread the word of going green among the youths. The 1-day landmark extravaganza held at the Old School @ Mount Sophia provided youths a platform to chip in and display their musical talents for free, in aid of our environmental cause. These local artists had also pledged to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Public was seen thronging into the venue from 11am via the hourly shuttle buses provided from the Home Club and Plaza Singapura, while some participants had taken the green initiative to leave their modes of private transport at home and took the flight of stairs up the Mount Sophia. Despite intermittent rains during the event, the enthusiasm level of the crowd was hyped by the entertaining performances and remained high throughout.
Besides the band performances, the participants were simply spoilt for choice with a plethora of activities lined up, some of which included an arts exhibition, a flea market, as well as a special screening of local films. Several non-governmental organisations such as WWF, ACRES, PETA, SPCA and the Vegetarian Society have also lent their support to this event which aimed to engage the crowd with the need to adopt a sustainable lifestyle and raise their awareness on other environmental issues.
And urging participants to take even more initiative in environmental protection was Nominated Minister of Parliament, Eunice Olsen.
The event attracted a total of about 2,500 participants and was jointly organised by the Halide Pictures and ECO Singapore.
