2008
Setting Up Home In Town — ECO Sphere

ECO Singapore moved to its new premises at Beach Road. It originally sub-rented a room in an office building from which it conducted its day-to-day business. The office had sufficient space for several staff members to work comfortably. We also shared a meeting room with another company.

Later, ECO Singapore was offered the opportunity to rent the entire office. After extensive renovations, ECO Sphere was launched at Chye Sing Building, opposite Shaw Towers. Besides our regular operations, we also allow other organisations or groups to rent one of our many offices for their own needs on an ad-hoc basis.

2007
Becoming A Social Enterprise

In an effort to raise revenue and be self-sustaining, ECO Singapore established a series of paid services. Our earnings go into our operating expenses and outreach initiatives. With this income, we were also able to offer paid internships to students.

Our income-generating arms are:

  • ECO Training Programme
    • ENRICH!
    • School Talks
  • ECO Shop
  • ECO Events
  • ECO Publications
    • EXPRESS!

2005
A Record Breaking Year

ECO Singapore launched its first magazine, ECO EXPRESS!. EXPRESS! is a quarterly electronic newsletter produced by ECO Singapore. The magazine covers a wide range of topics ranging from biodiversity, climate change, energy, population, poverty, agriculture, pollution, health and sanitation. It aims to be an environmental lifestyle magazine for Singapore youths.

ECO Singapore partnered with EnergyAsia on two Climate Change Forums. The sessions were held in July and October, in which the keynote speaker was Sir David King, a ministerial equivalent who advised then-Prime Minister Tony Blair in his Climate Change policies. The Singapore Management University (SMU) and its green club, SMU Verts, kindly assisted us in making the forum preparations and inviting various environment local environment groups and corporate partners to attend.

ECO Singapore worked with Heartware Network on the Celebration Tree @ North East 2005 project. The annual event was given an environmental edge to raise public awareness and motivate the public to play a part in the conservation of the environment.

2004
Our New Home — InQbuzz

ECO Singapore moved into a new premise, InQbuzz, a refurbished SBS Transit Double Decker Bus, located right in front of the National Youth Council building in Somerset, Singapore. With the new location, ECO Singapore started its trademark recruitment program, "Buzz the Bus". It also launched its official website at www.eco-singapore.org.

ECO Singapore became the founding member for the Asia Youth Environmental Network, supported by Asia Europe Youth Federation, as a founding member. The network aimsis to enhance exchange of information, skills and knowledge among youth leaders and youth organizations in countries within the ASEM (Asia Europe Meeting) mechanism on sustainable development implementation.

2003
Grant Recipient of National Youth Council

ECO Singapore was a grant recipient for the Youth Organisation Award, awarded by the National Youth Council. The grant of S$30,000 was a start-up fund to support the organization's operational activities and outreach programs for two years. The Commissioner of Charities of Singapore registered ECO Singapore as a recognized Charity in Singapore.

ECO Singapore represented Singapore as a member of and is nominated as the Secretariat of the Asia Youth Environmental Network (AYEN).
